Tracewell Systems Awarded Sole Source Contract with Department of the Navy for Military's Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) Program

December 29, 2009

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Tracewell Systems is receiving the only rackmount chassis contract with the Department of the Navy to upgrade navigation and electronic equipment on the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) program. Tracewell's custom-designed rackmount navigational chassis, four universal keyboard chassis and four CDR replace chassis will all be used as part of the LCAC life-extension effort, keeping LCACs in service through 2027.

Tracewell Systems, specializing in electronic packaging and thermal management for rugged systems, originally developed the chassis parts especially for the LCAC life extension program. The LCAC is a fast amphibious landing craft that hovers on an air cushion as high as four feet over oceans and beaches to move infantry, weapons and cargo from surface ships to landing areas ashore. Tracewell was chosen because it is the only company that produces equipment that meets form, fit, function and interchangeability requirements for LCAC command, control, communications, computer and navigation (C4N) systems.

"Tracewell is pleased to be chosen for our expertise in designing the unique chassis products that meet all of the Navy's needs," said Rob Harris, director of sales and marketing for Tracewell Systems. "Tracewell continues to be the frontrunner in electromechanical packaging that delivers top performance in challenging and rugged environments."
